The negative I had with the book there was no pictures of any of the statutes before, after or today. It would be a more complete book if had. Otherwise well worth the purchase. There is much humour, and a fair amount of horror, as the author describes the stories behind some of those who have been placed on pedestals- sometimes by themselves. This is an ideal book to gift a 13 year old who is developing an interest in history. Anyone else will think she had a book contract to fulfil and got this one out in about a day or two. I was drawn into each chapter and each story so easily, really well researched and engaging. Loved the arguments in defence of statues posed at the beginning then responded to in the conclusion.
